Final Decision
The winning team was determined using USAW criteria for dual meet pool competition. According to Policy and Procedure 10.3.1.1.2
With the total classification points coming out to Nashville - 73, Memphis - 64, Chattanooga - 55 this placed Chattanooga in third place. This left the head-to-head results between Memphis and Nashville to determine the Best of the Best Duals Champion for 2008. With Memphis holding the dual win from Match 1 over Nashville they were crowned champions for 2008.If there is a three way tie among teams in regards to win/loss record, the least number of total classification points earned among the tied teams, and only for matches among them, will be used to determine the third place team (least classification points of the three tied teams). The other two teams shall be ranked according to their head-to-head match. USAW Rule Book 2008 P.152
Other Notes
After the completion of the dual meet competition there were approximately 35 exhibition matches held. Some of these were repeats from matches throughout the day and others were matches held to make sure all competitiors got at least two matches for the day. This lead to some very spirited competition and even more excitement for some of the match-ups. The staff from each team and host Ravenwood should be thanked for allowing the exhibitions to take place as well as helping organize them to make sure that it was a good day for all of the wrestlers involved.
The competition for the day was intense and everyone behaved as true competitors. The wrestlers in the event ranged from multi-time state champions to wrestlers still looking to break into the line-up for their current high school team and each wrestler was able to help their team in one form or another. There were rematches from this year's TSSAA state tournament, matches between TSSAA state champions, matches between TSSAA state finalists, and many state qualifiers and medalists squaring off. Each wrestler should be comended for competing and seeking to test themselves against the rest of the state with nothing more than bragging rights and pride on the line.
The presence of a team representing Knoxville was missed this year as they have always brought a competitive squad to this event. However, we have a few coaches who will be looking to ensure that Knoxville is well represented in this event next year when Memphis is due to host.
Team Memphis now holds the cup... who will come and attempt to take it from them next year???
Last and certainly not least, we would like to thank the staff and parents at Ravenwood High School for helping to host this event and allowing everyone to come and see some of the best wrestlers in the state lay it on the line for pride and braggings rights for their area of the state.
