Tennessee Represented Well by Several Dedicated Young Men

40 TN Wrestlers Represent at the Super 32 in VA

Overall: Every wrestler who competed in this tournament should come out with their head held high. Each competitor decided to test himself at the national level and has undoubtedly come back a better wrestler for it. Congratulations to all of you who competed, you made Tennessee very proud!

Total Record: Overall the 40 wrestlers who represented TN came away with a combined record of 51-78. These wrestlers represented 11 different high schools from each area of the state. Tennessee came away with 3 medalists and 6 wrestlers who came out with winning records. Seven other wrestlers came away with an even record for the day. The schools represented were Bradley Central, Cleveland, Farragut, Franklin, Greenback, Greeneville, Jefferson County, McCallie, Ooltewah, Red Bank, and Saint Benedict.

Medalists:

Leading the way was David Mang of Bradley Central High School. Mang reached the finals in the 130 pound weightclass. David came through with a 6-1 record, his only lose to Josh Dziewa of Pennsylvannia via a 0-1 decision. In the semi-finals Mang defeated the third place finisher Jarod Garnett from Caravel Academy of Delaware via a 3-2 decision. David was certainly no stranger to close matches throughout the tournament as he won 4 matches via decision, 1 by tech fall, and 1 by pin. Excellent job by David, we are all proud of your accomplishments.

Clody Sliger of Ooltewah also carried the Tennessee banner proudly as he finished third in the 285 pound weightclass. Cody came out with a 5-1 record for the day and certainly took a hard road to earn his medal. Cody defeated the 8th place finisher, 5th place finisher, and the fourth place finisher (twice) on his road to third. His lone loss was a 1-5 decision to the eventual second place finisher, Josiah Beers of Southwestern HS in Pennsylvannia. Cody recorded 2 pins, 1 major decision, and 2 decisions as he made his way through the bracket.

Tennessee final medalist was Ryan Konz of Franklin. Konz finished 5th at 145 pounds. It was certianly no short road for Konz either as he ran a gauntlet of 10 matches coming out with a 8-2 record from a very deep weightclass. Ryan defeated the eventual 7th and 6th place finishers during his run through the bracket. One of his two losses came via a 4-2 OT decision to a wrestler many TN fans will be very familiar with, Taylor Knapp of Collins Hill, Georgia. After defeating Konz in the consolation semi-finals Knapp went on to finish fourth. Ryan recorded 2 falls and 6 decisions throughout the tournament and his only lose other than Knapp was a 4-3 decision to Dominick Demor of South Side Beaver, Pennsylvannia.

Winning Records:

Three other Tennessee wrestlers were able to come away from the tough tournament with winning records. A brief synopsis follows:

Josh Jadoboorsingh of Cleveland High School notched 4 wins to go against the two losses that put him out of the tournament. Jadoboorsingh recorded 2 pins, a major decision, and a decision. Josh's two losses came via decision with the final lose being a close 2-3 decision to eventual fourth place finisher David Klingshiem of Lberty High School in California.

Jeff Stidham of Saint Benedict at Auburndale also came away with a 4-2 record competing in the 145 pound weightclass. Sitdham, the lone representative from the west side of the state, won 3 matches by decision and 1 by major decision against 1 lose by decision and 1 lose by tech fall. Stidham was also no stranger to close bouts as he won one match 2-0 (against fellow TN wrestler AJ Farinella), won another 4-3 in the tiebreaker stanza, and lost his final match 2-1 to his opponent from New Jersey. Stidham was handed his other lose by eventual 7th place finisher Alex Eggers of Osceola, Florida in a 19-3 tech fall in the second round.

TJ Duncan of McCallie tallied 3 wins against 2 losses as he worked his way through the 135 poound bracket. This defending Tennessee state champ started off his freshman year with 3 wins by decision against 1 lose by decision and 1 by major decision. Duncan defeated opponents from North Carolina, Ohio, and South Carolina before he was eliminated from the tournament.

Wrestlers Breaking Even:

Seven other Tennessee wrestlers broke even for the tournament and took two wins with them before being eliminated. These wrestlers helped add 14 wins to Tennessee's total while testing themselves against some of the best competition from around the nation. They were:
